    Sulthan Bathery received its current name in the 18th century after being known as "Ganpathivattom" at first. The local Jain temple was captured by Tipu Sultan, who then turned it into a storage facility or battery for weapons. Sulthan Bathery is the largest town in the Wayanad district and is located on the Kozhikode-Kollegal route. The town's appeal is enhanced by its historic value and its multiple ancient temples, which have helped it become a well-liked tourist attraction. Sulthan Bathery is home to a number of unusual and fascinating locations. You can go hiking in the highlands, stroll down a winding woodland trail while observing animals and birds, and keep an eye out for stores that sell unusual handicrafts, honey, and coffee in this area.

    Sulthan Bathery, once a key place in the Malabar region, is now the biggest town in the Wayanad district and is well-known for its commercial and tourist activities. Every year, a large number of tourists are attracted to the area by the prehistoric caverns, jungle paths, glittering streams and rivers, and lush foliage of the undulating hills. Sulthan Bathery has a population that is mostly made up of tribes, but there are also settlers living there (those who migrated from various parts of Kerala). Agriculture is the main line of work for the locals.

        The Kozhikode-Mysore National Highway, or NH 766, provides excellent access to a number of locations. From Sulthan Bathery, there is yet another route that connects to Gudallur in Tamil Naduand Gundelpet in Karnataka. There are lodging alternatives in the town as well. The area is home to a number of resorts, government guest houses, and affordable hotels.
